Theorists of music videos from Chris Daw
This presentation provides interesting views on the structure and reasoning behind music videos. This has helped me grasp an understanding regarding the theoretical side of music videos- such as how women are presented, and the structure and composition of the video itself.
My first idea for what may influence the music video which I am to produce is The Suburbs by Arcade Fire; this video has always interested me with its coming of age themes. The video tells a fragmented story of teenagers growing up in an American or Canadian district war zone, and the effects which this has on the originally innocent kids. The ideas are then more explained in the short film Scenes From The Suburbs by the director of the video Spike Jonze, this is an extension of the video bringing clarity. This interests me as the fragmented film works well with the alternative music of Arcade Fire, and provides a powerful spectacle for a wide audience.
