Hello, I am now well into the scripting, planning and creating process which will define my video. Here are a few storyboards which I have completed in order to give myself a clear idea of the shot by shot structure of my video.

Location Planning....
I'm I'm My locations are split like the video with one half in my house- the narrative, and the other half in the Fibonacci room at school, for the performance part. As there are no pictures I can currently provide one would describe the Fibonacci room as a function room which will be rearranged to provide space for the band to set up, it will be dimly lighted, with lights focused on the band to create gig like visuals
My house will be the location for the narrative:
It will start in my room
With the film to be shot on mornings hopefully I will get some sun light through the window to make the lighting more natural.
And then the toilet and bathroom will also feature for the sickness shot.
Age ratings, bbfc post
Music videos have recently got film-style age ratings in a new pilot to protect children from unsuitable content.
- Record labels Sony, Universal and Warner have signed up to the voluntary scheme.
- The companies have begun submit music videos that may potentially cause concern to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), which will issue the promo with a 12, 15 or 18 certificate as well as content advice for viewers.
- The pilot, which also has backing from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), comes in the wake of growing concerns about the sexualised content of music videos in the past year.
- Rihanna, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj have all been criticised for their “pornographic” videos, which are available for children to watch on YouTube or Vevo with no restrictions or parental guidance.
- Prime Minister David Cameron announced in August that an age-ratings pilot to protect children from unsuitable content was in the pipeline.
- But the classifications will only be limited to British artists and will not apply to some of the most explicit videos from US performers.
- Twenty per cent of music videos released within the three month pilot period are estimated to be eligible for an age-appropriate certificate.
- David Austin, assistant director of the BBFC, said: “Parents are eager to have more input over the types of content their children access, particularly online. By applying understood and trusted BBFC age ratings to online music videos this pilot is a vital step in meeting this demand for choice and child protection.”
- Geoff Taylor, chief executive of BPI, said: “We want to give parents the information they need to make more informed decisions about the music videos they are happy for their children to see.”
How Does This Relate To My Music Video:
- I believe my music video would be a 12a due to the potential bad language in the texts and the adult humour of the hangover narrative, but nothing overly violent, sexual, drug related will be appear or be inferred- therefore it will not be a 15 or above.

How Am I Making My Music Video Unique?
As mentioned in a previous post my protagonist will be acting in a likable manner, with what happens to him being witty and satirical, this is therefore my spin on the song, as I am using the artists music and lyrics in a more conventionally funny and easier to relate with manner. Ultimately my reinvention of what the song is about is unique, but very logical to a wide audience of people, especially those my age.
Further Explanation About My Bands Name
The Hassle
It wasn't easy for me to find a name I was confident in and suited the song, but i believe 'The Hassle' is very much a believable guitar band name, traditional name, simplistic meaning (ala The Beatles, The Rolling stones, The Who, The Smiths etc). Also I think the implications of the word 'hassle' are very similar to the song, it feels reckless, problematic but cheeky.

Music Video Split Plot
Performance and a narrative will be the two different plots to my music video, by doing this I am adding depth to the song and what it's saying- linking to Goodwins theory of a relationship between the lyrics and music of the song- and the visuals present. Therefore by having two different parts to the music video I believe I am covering this comprehensively.
Plot A- Band Performance
I will have a range of shots of the band performancing, close ups on the singer (also linking to Goodwins theory), and lots ofquick cuts to replicate the energy of Razorlight in their original video. Here are examples of the range of different shots in the original video which i will strive to emulate in order to nail the performance element of the video.
medium shot, mise en scene interesting, singer symbolises purity being all in white, contrasting to what he singing about, links to goodwins theory once more.
extreme close up, you see tiredness
quick cut, action shot demonstrates the livelinessof song/band
close up action shot
vraiety of shots demonstrated, makes the room seem bigger making the sub plot seem more plausible
action, rest of band low down, showing singers' importance in piece?

high angle close up, drummer key part in the song.
The range of skillfull shots creates an energy vital to creating a good performance sequence,I look to better this variety in order to create a perfect performence piece, with variety being essential. This means I will have to perpare and revise what shots are needed and storyboards of this will be only this blog very shortly.
Part B
I am looking to portray a male waking up after a night out, looking visibly effected- (blurred background, close up on bags under eyes etc). We will see him moping around, seeing his phone keep going off from loads from texts being received, angry texts about the night before. Girlfriend, friends etc. Suddenly running to the toilet to be sick. Sending texts towards the end of this scene saying "I'm sorry, I cant remember" multiple times. Ends scene drinking a cup of coffee/tea, suddenly looks up to the camera with a smug grin on his face...
As my media teacher pointed out in my pitch the whole premise of the character is very like those played by Simon Pegg (e.g. Gary King of The Worlds End), and this image found sums up the humorous nature and likability which Simon Pegg uses cleverly in the comedy roles he plays, and this is something which I really need to replicate with my teenage character at the end of the video.
The protagonist is to be the polar opposite that of Razorlight video, my view is that cheeky and cheerful is more likable than morbid and zombie-like, suits the style of the song better as well in my opinion.

My Music Video Idea and Goodwins theory
My plot for my music video has been constructed to link to much of Goodwin's theory, demonstrating my awareness for the conventions of music videos. Therefore I can add my own unique touch for my target audience, to accurately create an effective piece.
Goodwin's Theory
2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
The song is talking about the morning after a night out, the visuals reflect the hangover and the other ramifications of a night out.
But then last night was so much fun
And now your sheets are dirty
The streets are dirty too but
You never look back over what you've done
Remember when you were young
You'd lose yourself
In the morning, you know you won't remember a thing
In the morning, you know it's gonna be alright.

The tempo of the song is allegro, very brisk and cheerful, demonstrating a contradicting to how the characters in the original video (unable to move normally, zombie like) and the more conventional character in my video is similar in his visible weariness. My Audience Survey for My Music Video
I have made a survey to identify a general response and impression of the Alternative music genre, the answers to the question will reveal key general views on the genre which will help me understand how I need to make my music video more universally popular in order for it to be successful. I will spread this around social media until I feel I have a big and diverse enough range of response's to present my findings...
