Music Video Progress

music video 2 from Freddy Allen on Vimeo.

This is an update to show the first draft of my music video, the final few seconds aren't included as I have not fully completed the ending just yet. As this is just the first draft of my video and much is still needed to done to perfect it (such as sound timing for professionalism, and an adequate end to my narrative so it makes perfect sense) I am open to suggestions and criticisms of my current video arrangement. Please Comment!

  1. Being honest, Freddy, it's going to be hard to place this much beyond the low 20s. The quality of the footage isn't great, even after you've treated the band in black and white, and it's clear that you've only got a couple of different angles; you use a very obvious digital zoom at one point and the over-reliance on the one full-band shot is a dead giveaway. The editing is about 1/4 of the pace you would expect for this kind of track, and one would expect a lot more in the way of energy and focus in this regard. The use of the captions seems haphazard; there does not seem to be any real focus to this, and I would either make more of it or ditch it. Similarly, the footage with Annabel doesn't really seem to add anything; the narrative through-line isn't clear, and again there is a haphazard quality to the deployment. Overall, you can tell that this has been rushed and it would be difficult for any moderator to agree a mark anything like you could achieve, with a little more thought.

    My advice:
    (1) Reshoot the band with a better camera. Make sure you get at least 10 different angles, and the close-ups
    (2) Decide how you want to use the captions and make this more of a feature, or lose them altogether
    (3) Similarly, look again at the footage you have of Annabel and either give it more structure or reshoot it.

Bottom line - you should look back at the research you did and compare it to the video you've made. How close have you got? That should give you an idea of how far you need to go.

That said, at least you got something posted, which is more than can be said for the rest of your compadres, so there is that..
