ASFF: What I learnt

Yesterday, I was fortunate to attend the Aesthetica Short Film Festival in York. It enable me to become more knowledgeable about film making; specifically the production of music videos, as I attended a master class on the ' A - Z of Music Video'.

I found this extremely interesting and gave us some great advise on the over all creation of music videos including the shooting, editing, and the importance of understanding and stretching a budget. To create the best possible piece of work, the enthusiasm and endeavor from the production team is vital in getting the best from the artist you're working with and the idea in place. I must replicate this in order to create a high level and professional piece of work to rival those out there today. Grading and adding colour to the music video was also highlighted as being important as it can potentially spark the piece into life; this is something which i must experiment with in order to get the most effective end-product from my original footage.
I enjoyed the master class as well as the vast array of fiction and non fiction on display at the festival; all of which entertained and provided food for thought. I would certainly recommend next years festival not only to enthusiastic media students like myself, but also to a wide audience of film lovers.

  1. I think a more detailed reflexive piece, possibly in audio format (for example, soundcloud based) podcast-type thing might be useful. You could potentially do this as a group and then embed it.
